Governor
Oshiomole announced the palliatives at a broadcast to the people
of the state on Thursday to include abolishment of all fees and
levies including Parent Teachers Association in all secondary
school for both indigenes and non indigenes in the state.
He also
announced a reduction in school fees at the state-owned Ambrose Alli
University (AAU), Ekpoma for regular undergraduates by N15,000 per
students across the board while part-time students’ fees was reduced
by N5,000 per student.
He explained
that the university would not loss any revenue as result of the
reduction saying that the state government would pay the bulk
difference to the university along with the monthly subvention of N210
million.
The Governor
similarly announced a fifty per cent subsidy on transport for primary
and secondary school students in the state, provided such pupils and
students were on their school uniforms.
He further
disclosed that the state government would increase the fleet of buses
of the Edo city transport service to boost the transport sector.
On health,
Oshiomhole announced free health care for senior citizens from age
seventy and above in all state hospital, while those from sixty years
and above are entitled to free eye test and eye glasses.
The governor
therefore called on leaders at all levels across the country to set
aside their personal political calculations as a result of the fuel
price increases in the interest of the people and the larger interest
of the polity.
Governor Oshimhole commended the people of the state in the manner
they conducted themselves during the fuel price increase protests and
reassured them of his administration’s determination to sustain
on-going developments in the state with a view to improving on the
quality of the peoples' life
