‘The change has now come to America,’
and imminent is its long anticipated effect on the world. And soon;
very, very soon, the world will be wowed again by this wonder-man
whose background is truly global. His middle name is Hussein. That
brings him home with the Middle-Easterners. His early life in Asia and
what we witnessed happen in his former elementary school in Indonesia
readily confirms acceptance for him. His root in Africa, vibrant and
healthy, is uncontroversial and solid behind him in this journey.
America re-ascertains her Equality creed. by Sesan Bello
It erupted
like a volcano in the morning. Seconds after, it swept across the
world. It was the jubilation of a defining moment - an exciting
moment. ‘The moment so many have waited so long’ (Bush) – the moment a
black man achieved a feat never deemed possible before, in American
politics; even in another decade to come. It was when Americans showed
the World that they were truly the biggest and the most matured
Democracy that knows what Democracy is all about. The day American
people united and spoke with their votes and changed a detested way of
life forced on them by what bookers described as ‘an unprecedented
failure of an imbecilic leadership’ which had ultimately grinded our
world to a halt.
But Americans
wowed the world. Not by their technology or by their generosity this
time but by another of their string of ‘Possibilities’- their
fantabulous vote. A black man whose name, the critics say, is funny,
was to become the first African-American who would be the most
influential person, with the most influential wife and most
influential children in the world. Born with a biological link to one
of the most backward race in the world, pessimists at home and around
the world have termed his ambition another joke by an underdog when,
several months ago, America needed who dares to engage the gear of her
political machinery in the process of changing the lot of the
agonising world. Here we are today. Americans have issued a statement,
‘we live our life for Democracy. Democracy is our only instrument of
change. We know what we want.’ And that was it! At the polls, the
victory against the world’s personas-non grata was landslide and
amazing. The will of the people came to reality.
Obama
Presidency undoubtedly holds a lot for the world- peace, prosperity,
security, stability, equality, freedom and a lot more. Congratulations
to the peace-loving people of the world. Congratulations Europe,
Asia, Americas, Middle East and the world at large. Like Jesse
Jackson, I just couldn’t hold back my tears. Tears rolled down my
cheeks uncontrollably in great joy for the succour that came at last.
America has surely re-ascertained her equality creed to the World
through President Obama and added another chapter to the history of
Blackman and the entire human race. Let the world learn from this –
all humans are the same. Black, coloured or white!
But hang on a
minute! What exactly is this mean to the democratic nations of the
world, especially the developing ones? Whatever your prompting
suggestions are, one fact is unambiguous and significant - the
government of, by and for the people is what Democracy is. And today,
Americans had re-ascertained that, once again. Now, we need to ask the
questions: Is this the case with all Democracies? Will every
leadership that claims to be democratic give its people a voice and
opportunity of choice such as this? Can other democracies of the world
enjoy such undisturbed civil unity and uninfluenced votes informed by
mere consensual outward-looking focus on our destination and
retrospective appraisal of our posterity? Big challenges though. But
here lies the key to the so much desired freedom, security,
prosperity, progress and stability by a nation in distress. Nigeria,
please take note.

And there, people were as jubilant as Americans themselves to the
tidings of his electoral victory. In United Kingdom, opinion forgers
were astute at recognising his distinct leadership instincts and
backed him early. America is his home. He is loved here as people love
money. President Obama will surely unite the world more than anyone
else. Shame! Shame on cheat and war monger.
