Budget implementation
controversy: Why we insist on Jonathan’s
House of Representatives spokesman, Zakari Muhammed, has said that
the lawmakers are resolved in their plan to start impeachment
proceedings against the President if by September 20 there was no
improvement in the implementation of the 2012 Budget. Muhammed said
the House would go ahead with an independent decision on resumption
from its recess on September 19, irrespective of Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s
briefing of the Appropriations Committee of the Senate on the 2012
Appropriations Act last week. It was learnt yesterday that Dr.
Okonjo-Iweala’s budget implementation figures provoked the House of
Representatives to issue an impeachment warning against President
Goodluck Jonathan.

Airhiavbere’s petition
splits Edo PDP leadership
All is not well within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in Edo State. This discord is as a result of the
petition filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Major General
Charles Airhiavbere, against the victory of Governor Adams Oshomhole
in the just-concluded governorship election. Sunday Mirror’s
investigation revealed that some of the leaders are not comfortable
with the petition filed on Thursday by Airhiavbere, especially as it
concerns the constitutional interpretation he is seeking with regard
to the acceptable qualification of a citizen to contest the office
of State Governor in Nigeria. ...Read

From The University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University: An
Unforced Error by an error-prone President!
The changing of the University of Lagos name to Moshood Abiola
University seems to us an unforced error by a President who is willing
to use all means to secure a second term, and he thinks the way to
securing it is through the people of the South West! It seems to us
that this president has no clue about the psyche of an average South
Westerner, and we predict this latest act is also the reason why we
think he has destroyed his chance to a second term in this zone.NigerianNews

Frisky Larr's Current Column Countdown in Edo State: Will Oshiomole cruise
to victory? by Frisky Larr
The paradox in Edo state: The very first Governor since the days of
retired General Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia of the defunct Bendel
State, who has given Edo State a bunch of visible, quantifiable and
palpable uplift, is now faced with the grim reality of possibly losing
his bid for re-election. Governor Adams Oshiomole came into office on
the heels of people’s expectations and had to tread the thorny path of
armchair brigandry, stolen mandate, tribunals, godfatherism etc.
before being finally manipulated into his rightful position. His
facilitators and collaborators then were no other than those who
fought running battles in the camp of his opponent, to assert their
supremacy.

Why The
Orchestrated Falsehood Against NEXIM Bank MD Must Stop! Atsar Terver
My attention has been drawn to the laughable, fictitious and
desperate sponsored report in the National Daily of 9th July 2012
targeted at the person of the Managing Director of Nigerian
Export-Import Bank (NEXIM Bank), Mr. Roberts Orya. Among several
spurious claims, the report alleges that the dismissed NSA uncovered
massive losses in the Bank's operations which were craftily covered
up to reflect profit as declared in the Bank's 2010 Annual Report;
and further speculates that the Bank gave out loans to shadow
clients and cronies without applications and other such fallacies!.NigerianNews

Column My Welcome Address to the Honorable Chief Justice of Nigeria Theo
Ikes Ogune, Esquire
They say that the world would be a better place if women ruled
it. Let me not bore you with the science of it all or even
focus on whether women use a different part of the brain from
the part that men use. Either way, today, I am going to wish
it were true -- that women made better managers than men. If
I were to go by the likes of Farida Waziri, however, I would
be in for a long haul! I also was going to be bothered by
your answer to the question of corruption in the judiciary,
whereupon you were quoted as simply responding that “there is
corruption at every level,” but I am brushing that aside as
quoted out of context. I am also brushing aside the recent
report of you saying in a BBC interview that the reinstatement
of Justice Salami, a clear victim of corrupt politics, “is not
[your] matter.” Today, I am remaining hopeful.NigerianNews Special

Practice Forgiveness: A Powerful Tool to
Open the Door of God's Blessings
by
Minister Ayodele Mobolurin
The goal of forgiveness is restoration. Restoration of your peace
of mind and restoration of a broken relationship. The second goal may not be
possible, because the other party does not want to put away the contention.
However, the first is achievable, since it depends only on one party to the
contentious issue. Forgiveness is a powerful tool for restoring your peace
of mind. You are at peace even with those that consider you an enemy.
The scripture commands forgiveness

world; but that the world through him might be saved.”.

BECOMING A RESPONSIBLE, CONFIDENT AND SAFE DRIVER by Adewale T. Akande
Driving is a serious responsibility with physical and mental abilities
impacting on the driving activities of a driver. It is more than
moving a vehicle and knowing how to use the accelerator, brake pedals
and steering. Driving is at best when you have knowledge and required
skills to drive competently in accordance with those rules and
regulations guiding the public roads. A safe and responsible driver
has responsibility which makes him a good citizen. Driving is a
learned skill acquired with much practice. It is also more important
to drive with due regards for safety and convenience of other road
users. Driving entails concentration, calmness, and with consideration
and respect for others. And at the same time, a driver should ensure
proper and total control of his vehicle at all times. That means a
driver must not allow anything to take their attention from the road,
therefore good anticipation and concentration will help to prevent
these usual incident becoming accidents on our roads. The safety of
others depends on you when you are on the wheel.NigerianNews Guest
